The softball event scheduled for early October is still a go.  As soon as Palm Beach County Parks and Rec opens the fields, I will post the brackets.
There are currently 25 teams scheduled to play.  The teams are below.
Round Robin games are scheduled to start on Friday October 6 at 8:15 am.  All teams will play AT LEAST 3 games before 12:00 noon on Saturday where the teams will be separated into the A, B and C Brackets.

If you still need a hotel room, the Hilton Airport has extended our deadline until September 28th.  If you need rooms call the hotel directly and follow the directions below to get the reduced rate.

Hotel Information: Please be informed that the cutoff date to make reservations is September 28, 2017. You can start making reservations by simply calling 561-684-9400 or 1-800-445-8667 and request a reservation under the FIRST RESPONDERS. If you choose to make your reservations via Internet, you can do so by clicking on the following link. All they need to do is enter their arrival date and departure date to begin the reservation process:

Rosters:   Rosters will be turned in at the fields prior to the first game as usual. No changes to the roster after your first game has started. Please be sure all of the individuals playing on your team for the weekend has completed the insurance portion on the website and they have joined your team.  If you have team members that have joined previous and are no not abve to attend, please just drop me a note or see me at the fields and we will refund that fee.

Check In –  For this event only – we will check all participants in at the fields.  Please be sure that you have joined your team, completed all of the online material, and you bring a department issued ID card or equivalent to the check in area.  This is a one time check in process for this event only.

General Information:

Captains Name and Department are required for registration – Rosters will be submitted prior to first game.

-***** Round Robin format followed by individual sub tournaments.  Brackets and times will be distributed based on registration and released after round robin is posted. ie, brackets A, B, or C

ASA Rules to be utilized. These ASA rules will be utilized with the following additions/ changes:

  • Bats to be provided – This is a “hit our sticks” tournament
  • Balls will be 44 COR, 375 compression. The type of ball selected will be selected by the Sport Coordinator and approved by the FRG Rules Director.
  • A team may use one courtesy runner per inning utilizing the last batted out.
  • Safety base at 1st base will be offered but does not have to be utilized
  • If the score is tied at the end of 7 innings, the FRG tiebreaker must be used. FRG tiebreaker: start the inning with the last batted out at second base; no outs.
  • A run rule of 20 runs after 3 innings, 15 after 4, and 12 after 5 innings will prevail.
  • The strike count will be 3 balls, 2 strikes, 1 extra foul. Thus the at-bat starts with a 1 and 1 count
  • No new inning may start after a 1 hour and 10 minute time limit has been met. There will be no time limits in medal games.
  • Home Run Limits
    • For the Round Robin Portion of the event – The home run rule is 5 and 1 up with a single being offered after 5 home runs. The runners on base must be forced to the next base, they do not automatically advance one base.
    • For the “A” Bracket – The home run rule is 5 and 1 up with a single being offered after 5 home runs. The runners on base must be forced to the next base, they do not automatically advance one base.
    • For the “B” Bracket – The home run rule is 5 and 1 up with a out being issued after 5 home runs.
    • For the “C” Bracket – The home run rule is 3 and 1 up with an inning ending out being issued after 3 home runs.
    •  When One-Up Home Run limits are in effect, the home team, in the bottom of the 7th or subsequent innings thereafter, CANNOT go One-Up.

EVENT: Softball – Open
The Open softball event will have one division – Open

AWARDS:
Medals to all individuals on the roster including 1 non – playing coach in each division and age group. Rosters are limited to a maximum of 15 players plus one (1) Non-Playing Coach.

OFFICIALS
Sport Coordinator: Supervises all facets of event.
Assistant Sport Coordinator: This person can assist the Sport Coordinator during the tournament and fill in when the Sport Coordinator is required to be away from the venue. An Assistant Sport Coordinator shall be designated for each complex.

An “Umpire-in-Chief” shall be appointed to handle the scheduling and monitoring of the umpires utilized in the tournament.

Two umpires per game.
One (1) Scorekeeper per game or designee (home team).

A Protest Committee consisting of the event coordinator, a neutral third party coach, and a member of the executive staff shall be assembled on matters regarding protests. The decision rendered by this committee is final.

PERSONNEL

Check-in table workers: one (1) person to work the competitor check-in table located at each venue each day of competition. They work under the direct supervision of the Sport Coordinator.

SCHEDULING

A captains briefing may be held prior to the event will explain the rules and regulations, the start time, and locations. A coach or representative from each team must be present at this meeting. The brackets may be drawn at this briefing. If no representative is present, the team will be considered a “no-show” and will not be placed in the bracket. NO EXCEPTIONS.

  • A certified bat list will be posted on the website at the time of registration. This list may be updated prior to the event, but frozen 30 days from the start. No changes to the bat list 30 days prior to the event.  The event may elect to be a hit our sticks event – whereas the host will provide all of the bats
  • Balls will be 44 COR, 375 compression. The type of ball selected will be selected by the Sport Coordinator and approved by the USFFG Rules Director.
  • A team may use one courtesy runner per inning utilizing the last batted out.
  • The use of Titanium bats and bats that have a BPF (bat performance factor) that exceeds 1.20 cannot be used
  • The home run rule is 5 and 1 up with a single being offered after 5 home runs. The runners on base must be forced to the next base, they do not automatically advance one base. When One-Up Home Run limits are in effect, the home team, in the bottom of the 7th or subsequent innings thereafter, CANNOT go One-Up.
