Event Rules
3-Point Shooting Contest Rules
Participants attempt to make as many three-point field goals as possible from five positions behind the three-point line in one minute. Players begin shooting from one corner of the court, and move from station to station along the three-point arc until they reach the other corner. At each shooting station is a rack with five basketballs. Out of the five balls, four are worth one point and the fifth one (often nicknamed the “money ball”) is worth two points. The goal of this contest is to score as many points as possible within one minute. A perfect score used to be 30 points.
The contest will consist of multiple Rounds.
- In the 1st Round each player will be given 60 seconds to hit as many 3 pointers as possible. The number of participants advancing to the 2nd Round will be eight and determined based upon the number of points scored in Round 1. If there is a tie – there will be a 30 second shoot-off. For the shoot-off starting at position 1 – a corner – The participant with the most points after the shoot-off advances.
- In the 2nd Round the top 8 participants from Round 1 will go head-to-head in a single elimination bracket format. Each player will be given 60 seconds to hit as many 3 pointers as possible. Point totals from the 1st Round will not be carried over to the 2nd Those who advance to the 2nd Round will start with a score of 0 at the beginning of the Round.
- The advancing 4 participants from Round 2 will compete in the medal rounds following the single elimination bracket format established in round 2.
- In the Medal Rounds each player will be given 60 seconds to hit as many 3 pointers as possible. Point totals from the previous Rounds will not be carried over to the Medal Both players will start the Final Round with a score of 0.
If there is a tie in any round for advancement to the next round, there will be a 30 second shoot-off. For the shoot-off starting at position 1 – a corner – The participant with the most points after the shoot-off advances.
